Seattle has an amazing music scene. On any night of the week, you can pick one of several dozen character-filled bars, saunter in, buy a pint of microbrew, and hear some quality rock and roll (or bluegrass, or pop, or hip-hop, or…) — probably for under ten bucks. New York can’t claim that. Paris can’t claim that. Even my hometown of Nashville can’t claim that. For the music lover, Seattle is someplace special. (It’s why we put up with the rain.)
I want to share the excitement of Seattle music with you. I want you to understand the anticipation waiting to hear a new band for the first time, the thrill of discovering you like them, the spectacle of the lights and the amps and the singers and the guitarists, the throb of the bass and the deep beat of the drum, the thrill of feeling your energy reverberating with the crowd’s, the happy memories brought back the next morning when you see the smudged club stamp on the inside of your wrist. I want to convey the sheer joy that comes from seeing one of your favorite bands on a concert calendar, of hearing one of your favorite songs played live. I am a music junkie. And I want you to be too.
And how will I do that? With two simple weapons: a pen and a camera. I love music, but the truth is, I suck at making it; photography and writing are where my talents lie. The musicians will do their jobs, I’ll do mine, and these three fields — three gigs — will come together here, at threegigs.com, for your enjoyment and edification. Welcome to Seattle music. Welcome to threegigs.com.
