“It’s been a long time since we played a show,” lead singer Michael Jaworski said, “and we’re really excited to be here.” You could tell – The Cops gave one of the most animated sets I’ve ever seen from them, with guitarist John Randolph climbing on amps and performing balletic twirls and leaps about the stage, and Jaworksi almost rocking his own tie off. Even the space to the side of the stage was packed as everyone from the green room came out to watch. Maybe the reason behind the show – it was a benefit to raise funds for an uninsured friend’s health care – fueled the band’s fire, or maybe they’re just rejuvenated after a summer (mostly) off. Whatever the case, I hope to see The Cops – THESE Cops – much more often in the coming months.
The Cops play the Sunset Tavern on October 30th.
