Video Monday: I Don’t Like Mondays

If I had to make a list of The Saddest Songs On Earth, Boomtown Rats’ “I Don’t Like Mondays” would definitely be in my top three. It draws you in with its beautiful lullaby melody, and then suddenly you realize the absolute horror of what it’s about. Nonetheless, you can’t help but sing along.


While browsing YouTube* for a video of the song, I also came across a Tori Amos cover version. Amos’ voice can make any song haunting, and while “I Don’t Like Mondays” needs no help there, Amos’ version adds some lovely nuance to the song by replacing a bit of the bombast with quieter, more subtle refrains.
