You’ve probably heard about the ricin threats received by eleven Seattle gay bars: “Your establishment has been targeted,” the letter begins. “I have in my possession approximately 67 grams of ricin with which I will indiscriminately target at least five of your clients.” Angered by the threats and worried that the bars will lose business, neighborhood residents have put together a pub crawl Friday night to support the targeted venues.

This morning’s most alarming news story is of the shooting that occurred early this morning at Chop Suey nightclub on Capitol Hill. Reports state that just before 12:30, someone entered a side door at the venue and fired shots into the hallway, killing local rap artist 29-E and seriously injuring the show’s host, 1st Black Prez.
You might be able to make two different shows. With a complex and well-executed plan, you could get to three. But in reality, you’re going to be lucky to get into one before it sells out, so you should probably choose wisely and in advance. So The Cops, who I have a well-documented obsession with, are playing a three-night farewell stand at the Sunset Tavern. The “Rock And Roll Circus” began last night, which, as Seattlites know, was also the first night of Snowpocalypse 2008. Ice and snow blanketed most Seattle streets, but the Sunset Tavern website assured me the show was still on, so my husband and I bundled up and trudged resolutely off to the bus stop.

I’m kind of in love with Thao Nguyen. Her music is charming and delightful, her performances are enthralling, and her personality is, reportedly, both sweet and goofy – the two characteristics I’m most a sucker for. So when I hit Chop Suey for the Hotel Cafe Tour Saturday night, I was mostly there to see her.
