Yesterday was so busy that by the time I was able to head to Neumos for the Police Teeth / Akimbo / Fucked Up show I was afraid I was going miss Police Teeth’s set. Luckily, I arrived in time to catch most of it, and though the crowd was still thin so early in the evening, I hope everyone else there enjoyed it as much as I did.

The Whip, an electropop band from Manchester, England, traveled a long, long way to make Seattle dance, but last night at Chop Suey they achieved their goal. As the band worked themselves into a sweat, attendees churned on the floor below.

High Class Wreckage makes big, sexy music. Full of thumping bass, growly vocals, and fuzzy guitars, they seem half seventies rock, half Mudhoney, and one hundred percent – to quote their MySpace page – sweaty fucking rock and roll. Live, they give their all, rocking their hardest even to a small weeknight room.

Thursday night’s Showbox headliners – a little band called the Murder City Devils – were amazing, of course. But the evening offered me the added joy of falling in love with openers Constant Lovers. The group created complex, layered music, their sometimes-growling, sometimes-soaring vocals anchored by heavy drums.
